I’m a fan of data, and tracking the input and output of babies can be pretty useful if you can find the right way to display the data (and as long as the input methodology isn’t cumbersome). I tried a few of those apps but ultimately reverted to paper record keeping on the basics like food and nap times – it has definitely helped me identify patterns in my own kid’s behavior. My wife also likes keeping track of these things because she’s inherently competitive and has to “win” by producing more than he takes in.

Your baby was so easy. You’re falling in to the trap that almost every parent does, assuming that their experience is universal (and yet exceptional at the same time). This is the reason that new parents are so annoying – they will, without hesitation or self-doubt, recommend to you all the things that you can do to make your child as perfect as theirs. This isn’t at all what I was expecting from the headline. I was hoping for a stand that could be used on a desk or on the floor as a standing desk. But this is really neither – it’s a way of bringing the screen up to eye level if you’re sitting down but it really can’t be used as a standing desk at all – the screen would be in the wrong position and either way, the keyboard is at an extreme angle that would induce carpel tunnel before the quick brown fox could jump over the lazy dog. …read more
