This attitude of “if you don’t like it, don’t click it” (a popular retort, though usually with less polite phrasing) ignores the bigger problem; for a publication to be relevant, it needs to keep its focus. It needs to provide information that the readers find interesting and entertaining. The more “off topic” the posts are, the less valuable the publication is to its audience. Now obviously some of these kinds of postings bring in new audience, but it changes both the nature of the publication and the readership.

If flightclub articles didn’t appear on jalopnik in the first place it would be a different matter; you could read all the stories about what happens in airport bathrooms that you want, and I could read about what I came here for, namely motor vehicles. But that’s not the way it works. So until that changes, yes, I’m going to complain when I see clickbaity crap on a once-great website that now panders to the lowest common denominator.
